The Blog: Life, Death, and Resurrection?
Unaware of the number of people actively reading her teenage blog, Xexilia kept a candid, public record of the abuse and neglect she endured and survived from childhood, and beyond the life of the blog itself. Ending updates after her sister’s death also revealed an ex was using the blog to monitor and even verbally abuse her with random, anonymous comments. Xexilia only learned of the blog’s high readership years later when she began to discover
various pieces or entire articles of her writing copied and pasted to share with others across the internet–and eventually discovered the records she had of the traffic to her site. She was disturbed to find that the average person checked her site daily, but on days her comic updated, they spent more time on the main page. . .before checking her journal. Others only read her journal.
None of these people ever made themselves known, so Xexilia assumed no one read her journal–as surely someone would contact her to help her escape the abuse before it had lasting effects. . .unaware it was too late to escape that outcome. Learning people knew of the abuse and read about living through it while doing nothing disturbed Xexilia on a whole new level–And she’s just grateful she didn’t learn this at the time. Her belief in humanity and hope for rescue were what kept her going, and she sincerely believes this information may have robbed her of that. While things were brutal, Xexilia ultimately survived and achieved many of her dreams and goals; Her life did change and did get better. . .It just took far longer than anyone would have liked.
If you’re a fan of Shadow’s writing, this is her one and only blog post on her professional art portfolio website, but not her one and only blog post. To learn where she’s hiding her writing, read the only blog post on this site.
